RESEARCH STRATEGY & EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN

Make Better Research Decisions Before Resources Are Committed

Independent senior scientific input to refine research questions, strengthen experimental logic, evaluate methods and controls, anticipate limitations, interpret complex findings, and choose the most informative next step.

WHEN THIS SERVICE HELPS

Independent Input at Critical Research Decisions

Before Experiments Begin

The question is important, but the hypothesis, controls, sampling, methods, feasibility, or decision criteria need refinement before resources are committed.

When a Project Becomes Complex

The study has expanded, results are inconsistent, or several possible explanations and experimental routes now compete for attention.

When Results Need Direction

The data are available, but interpretation, limitations, alternative explanations, or the most informative next experiment remain unclear.

WHAT SUPPORT CAN INCLUDE

Independent Scientific Thinking Around the Research Question

Good experimental design begins with the decision the study needs to support. We work backwards from that question to evaluate the logic, controls, measurements, feasibility, and interpretation strategy.

Recommendations are tailored to the research context; investigators retain responsibility for scientific, ethical, regulatory, and operational decisions.

01 — Question & Hypothesis

Clarify what the study must distinguish, what evidence would support each explanation, and how the question can be tested.

02 — Experimental Logic & Controls

Evaluate comparisons, positive and negative controls, confounding factors, causal logic, and alternative explanations.

03 — Methods & Feasibility

Assess whether the selected system, measurements, resources, and timeline are appropriate for the intended inference.

04 — Sampling, Replication & Data

Review biological and technical replication, sampling strategy, data quality, and the planned route from measurement to conclusion.

05 — Interpretation & Limitations

Separate observations from inference, identify uncertainty, test competing interpretations, and keep conclusions proportionate.

06 — Next-Step Decisions

Prioritise experiments or analyses according to information value, feasibility, risk, and their ability to change the scientific decision.

HOW IT WORKS

A Focused Scientific Consultation

01

Share the Question

Provide a concise overview of the research problem, current evidence, constraints, and the decision or experimental challenge you face.

02

Define the Analysis

We agree the questions to address, materials to review, consultation format, deliverables, timeline, and fee.

03

Review & Decide

You receive an independent scientific assessment, a structured discussion of the options, and clear recommendations for the next step.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Before You Enquire

Which research fields do you support?

The core expertise is in molecular and cellular biology, plant science, biotechnology, environmental sensing, stress biology, and related life-science research. Adjacent projects are assessed individually for fit.

Do you conduct the laboratory work?

No. This service provides independent scientific strategy, design review, interpretation, and decision support. Laboratory execution remains with the research team or its chosen collaborators.

Can you provide statistical analysis?

Statistical reasoning, analysis planning, data interpretation, and the logic of comparisons can be included. Specialist or extensive quantitative analyses are scoped separately where appropriate.

Can you guarantee that an experiment will work?

No. Research carries uncertainty. The aim is to improve the logic, feasibility, controls, and information value of the study—not to guarantee a particular result.

How is confidentiality handled?

Research ideas, data, and project materials are handled confidentially. A confidentiality agreement and secure file-transfer arrangements can be included where appropriate.
